Today I start my SyI Diploma in Security Management

Today I kick off a year long journey to complete some personal development (and its not my SIA license), its the Security Institutes Diploma in Security Management run by Perpetuity Training.

I have pondered over numerous training routes over the last 6 months or so, even considered taking the plunge and progressing down a more academic route but if I’m honest I don’t think I can commit 3 or 4 years to it! I enjoy my weekends with the wife  (she might read this), my kids and the associated free taxi service that I provide, but I also want to really progress my career and invest time in that. It’s a  catch 22 situation as arguably a degree would lead to progression but I’m specifically talking about the day job and in the short term (not 4 years time).

I don’t think for one minute that the Diploma will be a breeze but it is only a year of commitment which will result in a recognised qualification at the end of it. If your interested it covers the following areas and not all are ‘security’ specific…..

  • Understanding security
  • Threats to security
  • Risk management
  • The legal system
  • Management

So busy times ahead, no doubt a little stress and late nights! Please feel free to put these submission dates in your diaries and give me a gentle reminder as I will no doubt get to the day before and frantically sit down trying to complete my assignment! The submission dates for the modules are:

  • Module 1: 6th December 2012
  • Module 2: 14th February 2013
  • Module 3: 25th April 2013
  • Module 4: 4th July 2013
  • Module 5: 12th September 2013

I will keep you posted along the way!!
